Base Layers: How “Glitch & Groove” Came to Life

My ninth track, Glitch & Groove, is an exploration of sound built entirely around a heavy, hypnotic bassline. By layering flickering instruments and glitchy vocal textures around that central pulse, I’ve created a sonic landscape that stays engaging from start to finish. Glitch & Groover - Audio Groover

Nine tracks down, and for this latest release, I decided to flip my process on its head.

Most songs start with a melody or a beat, but “Glitch & Groove” started with one thing and one thing only: the bassline. I wanted to create a foundation that felt heavy, intentional, and hypnotic—a pulse that could carry the entire track from start to finish.

Once that low-end groove was locked in, the real challenge began. The goal was to keep the energy moving without ever losing that core pulse. I began layering instruments and textures around the bass, treating them like orbiting satellites. You’ll hear glitchy vocal chops, atmospheric echoes, and sharp rhythmic hits that weave in and out of the arrangement.

By building the track this way, the extra instruments act as “ear candy”—they keep the listener engaged and the soundscape evolving, while the bassline acts as the anchor keeping everything grounded. It’s a sonic experiment in contrast: the steady, driving low-end meeting the unpredictable, flickering highs.
