The evolution of a producer starts the moment they stop searching for the perfect sample and start drawing their own map.
My latest track, “Gridlock,” represents a massive milestone in my production journey. While my previous work relied on curated samples, this project is a raw, heavy Breakbeat anthem built entirely from the ground up in Logic Pro.
The Anatomy of the Grid
The name “Gridlock” isn’t just about the heavy, industrial city vibes—it’s a nod to the MIDI grid where every single note of this track was hand-placed.
At the center of the storm is the heavy synth. It’s a demanding, gritty lead that provides the “dirty” dancefloor energy I was looking for. To balance out that synthetic weight, I layered in a soulful Saxophone and Organ, following the same rising and falling patterns to create a sense of thematic unity.
Technical Breakthroughs
This track was a masterclass in creative control. By moving away from samples, I was able to:
- Compose Original Motifs: Creating patterns that breathe and evolve rather than just looping.
- Master the Signal Chain: Dialing in the EQ and Limiter to hit a professional sound without losing the “dirt” in the sound.
What’s Next?
“Gridlock” is the benchmark. It’s the sound of taking the wheel and driving the production exactly where I want it to go. While this track leans into the heavy Breakbeat realm, it has opened the door to endless possibilities. Whether the next project is House, Trance, or a hybrid of both, the “grid” is no longer a limitation—it’s a playground, and I can’t wait to start playing in it.
