From the Dancefloor to deep Space: Reimagining the Funk
When I first sat down to write “Spring Time Funk,” the goal was simple: capture that bright, high-energy groove of a sunny afternoon. It was punchy, direct, and grounded. But as I spent more time with the track, a different frequency started calling from the shadows.
I realised the song had a second life hidden inside it—a late-night, “head-in-the-clouds” version that belonged somewhere else entirely.

The Return of the Space Cadet
The title of this remix, “Space Cadet,” is a deliberate nod to a very specific era. For those of us who came up through the house and rave scenes “back in the day,” a Space Cadet wasn’t just someone daydreaming. They were the ones at the back of the club, totally lost in the lights, drifting on a different planet while the bass did the heavy lifting.
That’s the headspace I wanted to inhabit with this version. I wanted to take the “Spring Time” DNA and submerge it in a weightless environment.
A Parallel Universe
In this remix, the familiar elements of the original are still there, but they’ve been transformed. The brass sections, once sharp and percussive, now swirl around you like a satellite in orbit.
It’s a “parallel universe” take on the song. It’s less about the physical act of dancing and more about the mental act of drifting. It’s the sound of the club at 4:00 AM when the lights get low and the melody starts to feel like a dream.
The Journey
Creating the Space Cadet Remix reminded me that music is a living thing. You can take a funky, grounded groove and, with a bit of curiosity, turn it into a cosmic journey. This version is for the dreamers, the late-night listeners, and the original Space Cadets who know exactly what it feels like to get lost in a soundscape.
The Space Cadet Remix is out now. Put on your headphones, close your eyes, and let the funk take you somewhere else.
